Alpine Quest Adventure Kicks Off with a 600km Cycling Feat

March 1, 2025 – The Alpine Quest adventure has officially begun, marking the start of an extraordinary journey from Vienna to Monaco. This all-female expedition, led by Ironman World Champion Loubna Freih and mountain guide Mélanie Corthay, aims to traverse the Alps over the next two months, combining cycling, ski mountaineering, and trail running.

First Week: A Grueling 600km Cycling Challenge

The initial phase of the expedition saw the team embark on a demanding cycling route, covering close to 600 kilometers. This leg was characterized by cold temperatures and steady climbs, as they made their entry into the majestic Alps. The challenging conditions tested their endurance and resilience, setting a formidable tone for the journey ahead.

Joined by Esteemed Athletes

Adding to the momentum, the team was joined by two remarkable athletes:

Frédérique Rol: An accomplished Swiss rower and Olympian, Frédérique brought her athletic prowess and unwavering determination to the team.
Nathalie Monnier: A Swiss-German Gran Fondo cyclist, Nathalie’s expertise and enthusiasm provided invaluable support during this challenging cycling segment.

Their participation not only bolstered the team’s spirit but also highlighted the collaborative essence of Alpine Quest.

A Journey with Purpose

Beyond the physical challenges, Alpine Quest is deeply rooted in environmental advocacy. The expedition aims to raise awareness about glacier retreat and water resource issues, aligning with the International Year of Glacier Preservation. This journey stands as a testament to the power of women in adventure sports and their connection to nature.

Looking Ahead: Transition to Ski Mountaineering

As the team completes their cycling leg, they will soon swap their bikes for skis and be joined by their third team member, Sophie Pelka, for what will be the longest and most intense phase of the adventure—ski mountaineering. This next leg will take them deep into the heart of the Alps, where they will face extreme conditions, long ascents, and technical descents, pushing their endurance to the limit.
